Eating Like a Wild Man

Over the last few weeks, at our pediatrician's recommendation, we've started introducing some solid foods into Wilder's diet. I did a lot of research, and we decided to go with "Baby-led weaning" which is basically, serving your child the same food you eat. Not pureeing or using jarred food--just making sure to place a variety of healthy foods in front of Wilder that are safe for him to eat. Starting out with food cut into french fry shapes, basically. It just makes sense for our family. It's not a big deal how much he actually eats, but he is getting a little food in there (most of it ends up in his bib pocket or on the floor, which Ellie loves). I wasn't sure how it would go, but he's quickly jumped on the bandwagon. We're only doing dinner right now because it's a mess, but he likes trying new things.  Here are some photos of Wilder chowing down!

First food: Asparagus. Fun fact: I never ate asparagus until I was an adult!

skirt steak. He sucked on it for a while.

Cutie orange. Made such a mess but he sure did like it.

Last time he ate without a bib :-)

Gotta wash your hands!

Someone is ready for food

Pork chop bone. He just sucked on it and got those good iron-filled juices.

sweet potato

Checkin out chicken and salad.

Yay cucumber!

quinoa stir fry with pork. He liked it!

Coffee. JK he doesn't get to drink coffee yet. But he wishes!

Loved that pasta

yum lettuce

such a hambone

trying a pear with daddy

loving that turkey

fistful of pear, turkey AND quinoa.

learning how to get food in his mouth

quinoa boy

homemade pizza with garlic scape pesto, chicken, olives, tomato and cheese. NOT ALL FOR HIM! haha

saving it for later.

aftermath of spaghetti sauce

mango is so tangy!

loving that slippery avocado

he likes holding the cup and drinking

frozen apples - it's firm to hold but melts to mush in the mouth

spicy glazed pork chop. He looooved it...

but it made his eyes water. Okra and sweet potatoes helped, but we'll hold off on the spice for a bit.

chobani yogurt and cutie oranges. yum! He can use a spoon - this was the first time the spoon had something on it.

carrot soup- yum!

he loved that carrot soup!

Six Months Old

6 months old
Today is Wilder's 6 month birthday. I feel like it's such a milestone! My baby is halfway to a year old--where has the time gone?? He's been growing in leaps and bounds. This month, Wilder:

  • Weighs 15 lb .05 oz and is 25.75" long
  • Sits up by himself for long periods of time
  • Takes baths sitting up by himself in the big tub
  • Says things like "kkkk" and "guh" and "mmmmmm" and "ddddd" along with all kinds of loud long singing
  • Still teething off and on but no teeth yet
  • Has slept through the night (from 8 pm to 7 am) like EIGHT times in the last two weeks. Regularly sleeps 6-8 hours straight. I don't know how long this will last, but it's been really amazing!
  • Picks up and drops toys like a claw machine, especially his soft cube
  • Stands up and bounces off your lap or the bed all the time. While being held of course :-)
  • Insists on turning pages (and trying to eat) books. We are only reading board books for the time being because of this.
  • Loves spending time in the shade outside on a picnic blanket
  • Likes listening to classical music--he'll stop whatever he's doing to listen quietly or sing
  • Has started eating solid table food. His favorite is broccoli so far.
  • Loves grabbing a cup of water and drinking out of it. He is the master of backspit though!

Here are some more photos. And in honor of the '06 month… my class year… we took some Aggiefied photos too!
